Cemetery Records & Obituaries

Cemeteries and churchyards are an important source of information. Obituaries and death notices in newspapers provide information such as names of next of kin.

A complete collection of all Ontario Cemetery indexes is available at the North York Public Library, in the Ontario Genealogical Society collection. They have a name index and cemetery locator.

  • Lifenews.ca - search obituaries, memorials, anniversaries, births, weddings from Metroland Media and Torstar. Includes regional sites and The Spec.
  • CanadianObituaries.com - currently in Ontario, for regional obituary notices in: Durham Region, Toronto & GTA, Halton Region, Waterloo Region, Barrie, Orillia, Peterborough County, Northumberland County, Niagara Region, Hamilton - Wentworth Region, City of Kawartha Lakes, Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
  • Obituaries.com - newspaper obituaries from the U.S. and Canada
  • Your Life Moments - obits from various cities across Canada - from Canoe.ca and Sun Media

(BUR) refers to non-circulating items located in the Burlington History Room. To view these items, please present your library card or other identification at the 2nd floor Information Desk, Central Library.

(RR) or Ready Reference, also (REF) or Reference, refers to an item that must be used in the library.
